Session Descriptions

Session 2: FAA Southwest Region Update
Speakers:

Ignacio Flores, Director - FAA

Hear from the FAA’s Southwest Region Director and Oklahoma’s ADO on activities from the Southwest Region that impact our airports, including federal grants, airport compliance, and the FAA’s new land use rules.


Session 3: Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics Update
Speakers: Grayson Ardies, Executive Director - ODAA

Leading the State’s effort to grow the aviation and aerospace industry is a monumental endeavor.  Get the latest on programs led by ODAA to support capital investment at our state’s 108 public use airports, including their hangar grant program and other capacity expanding opportunities.  This session will also highlight the State’s focus on expanding aviation education programs to classrooms across Oklahoma and provides airports with a step by step guide on how to get engaged in this effort.


Session 4: Aligning Airport and FAA Priorities to Secure Project Funding

Does your airport need pavement work, new signs or lights, or maybe you’re thinking about building a terminal?  This is your chance to share with the FAA examples of projects you would like to pursue and get feedback on how to best prepare your requests for federal grant applications.


Session 5: A Pilot’s Perspective of Airport Administration
Speakers: Tom Chandler, Regional Manager - Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association 

AOPA is committed to secure the future of general aviation and has vocally advocated for pilot’s rights, 100 Unleaded Avgas, and airport protection across the United States.  This session will provide airport operators with feedback from regional AOPA members on airport operations, including what’s going well and what we should avoid. Walk away with a shared perspective on issues that matter to airport tenants and a game plan for how airports can support the general aviation community.


Session 9: Crisis Response - Case Studies from Goldsby, Shawnee and Broken Bow

This session highlights positive developments at airports in our State.  Hear from airport managers and consultants about their planning and development program, their use of technology to manage airport operations, and their success with community engagement to build relationships that drive support for airport activities.


Roundtable: Overview of ODAA Grant Programs

Hear from ODAA officials and airports currently participating in one of the ODAA’s grant programs that provide funding for hangars, terminals, or fuel systems.  Leave with an overview of steps needed to compete for state funds to support additional aeronautical activity at your airport.


Roundtable: Successful Airport and Community Engagement Strategies

Roundtable: Airfield Electrical and Safety Training for Airport Managers

Airfield lighting systems present unique electrical hazards that require specialized knowledge compared to standard lighting systems.  This session will provide an overview of safety steps that airport managers should consider to minimize risk of injury to airport employees and electricians and downtime of critical airfield electrical infrastructure.
